In Between is a poetic exploration of the liminal spaces where identity dissolves, is mirrored, and is recreated. Through a performative journey in the landscape, the filmmaker moves between the visible and invisible worlds of Sáivu, the parallel realm of Sámi cosmology. Here, life brushes against death, memory takes root in the earth, and time no longer unfolds in a straight line. As the boundaries between worlds become permeable, the past, present, and future coexist. Through this wormhole in time, transformation becomes possible, revealing that becoming oneself is not a destination, but a continuous passage from one life into another.

It will be screened on August 10 at Cinéma du Musée.
DIRECTORS STATEMENT
My work is rooted in the space between lived experience, memory, and imagination. I am drawn to the intimate stories of individuals and families who carry silence, resilience, and responsibility across generations, and I explore these through both documentary and fictional forms. My Sámi heritage and an enduring engagement with mythology, identity, and place guide my storytelling, shaping the worlds I create on screen and through material-based art practices.
I work at the intersection of film, animation, and tactile media, often blending realism with poetic, symbolic, and tactile layers. I am interested in the subtle gestures and quiet moments that reveal political, social, and emotional truths — the unspoken tensions, the inherited histories, and the delicate negotiations between personal desire and collective responsibility.
Through my films and installations, I aim to create spaces for reflection, presence, and engagement. I seek to hold the audience within a state of attentive observation, inviting them to inhabit the liminal spaces I explore — the “in between” of past and present, visibility and invisibility, silence and expression.
My artistic practice is an ongoing conversation with materiality, memory, and resistance, where the poetic image becomes a vessel for political and philosophical reflection.
Recent works such as In My Hand (2025) and Tystnaden i Sápmi (2022) continue this exploration, merging intimate narratives with larger political, cultural, and environmental questions. My practice is grounded in documentary observation but driven by fiction, experimentation, and the tactile presence of the materials I work with — from embroidered objects to moving images — all forming a constellation that reflects both personal and collective histories.
Ultimately, my films and artworks aim to bridge the personal and the political, the ancestral and the contemporary, creating a space where memory, myth, and lived experience converge to form new ways of seeing, feeling, and understanding.
